Part-Time FD Services
For established business owners who want someone inside their numbers every month, not just at year end.
Your business is doing well.
There is money coming in, and on the surface things look fine.
But you have a nagging feeling that the numbers could be better.
You are not sure exactly what the business is making, what is really yours, or where it is all going. Your accountant does the year end and keeps you compliant, but nobody is inside your numbers on a monthly basis, helping you understand them and act on them.

What a Part-Time FD Actually Does
A part-time FD is not your accountant. They do not just file your returns and disappear until next year.
A part-time FD sits alongside you in the business. They look at your numbers every month, help you understand what they are telling you, and work with you to make sure the business is generating what it needs to.
Here is what that looks like in practice.
Every month we start with your financial scorecard. This gives you a clear picture of how the business is performing against the numbers that matter. Not just revenue, but profit, cash, and what is actually yours at the end of it.

From there we look at your cash flow. Where is every pound going? What needs to come out, and in what order, to make sure you can pay yourself, your team and HMRC every month without the worry?
This is the heart of the Pay Yourself First method. I was the first Profit First professional in the UK back in 2015, and I have since developed my own UK-relevant version. The principle is simple: your business should pay you
first, not last.
Then we meet. Once a month, we sit down together and go through everything. What the numbers are saying, what decisions need making, and what to focus on in the month ahead.
It is not complicated. It is just consistent, honest attention to the numbers that most business owners never get.

Questions People Ask
What is the difference between a part-time FD and an accountant?
Your accountant keeps you compliant. They file your returns, handle your year end, and make sure you are meeting your legal obligations. That is important, but it is backwards-looking work. A part-time FD is forward-looking. They sit inside your numbers every month, help you understand what they are telling you, and work with you to make decisions based on where the business is going, not just where it has been.
Do I need a part-time FD if my business is already profitable?
If you are turning over £200,000 per annum then probably, yes. In fact, profitable businesses often benefit the most. When there is money in the bank, it is easy to assume the numbers are fine. But profit and cash are not the same thing, and knowing your turnover is very different from knowing what you are actually making. A part-time FD helps you understand what is really yours and where the gaps are.
How much does a part-time FD cost in the UK?
Part-time FD fees vary depending on the size and complexity of the business. Our monthly rate is £550 plus VAT for businesses with a turnover under £1 million, and £780 plus VAT for businesses over £1 million. Bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns and year-end accounts are available and quoted separately.
What does a part-time FD do every month?
Every month you get a clear picture of how your business is performing. Not just the turnover figure, but the numbers that actually tell you what is happening. You will know what the business is genuinely making, where the money is going, and whether you are paying yourself what you should be. We look at cash flow together to make sure there are no nasty surprises coming, and then we meet to talk through what the numbers mean and what to do
about them.
What is the difference between a part-time FD and a fractional FD?
They are the same thing. Fractional FD is the American term, part-time FD is the English one. Both refer to a contracted Finance Director who works with your business on a part-time basis rather than being employed full time. If you are in the UK and searching for either, you are looking for the same service.
When is the right time to bring in a part-time FD?
Usually when you realise that your accountant is not giving you what you need to run the business day to day. Common signs include not knowing your real profit, cash flow surprises, uncertainty about pricing, or a feeling that money is coming in but not staying. You do not need to be in crisis. Many of the best FD relationships start when a business is doing reasonably well, but the owner knows that understanding their numbers properly could make it significantly better.
